I want to take this time to wish you all a happy Memorial Day.  Tomorrow when we are off from work, golfing, having cook outs, boating and otherwise spending time with the family, let's remember what the real meaning of Memorial day is.  We can live free and celebrate because of the sacrifice of many brave men and women who have paid the ultimate price for our freedom as a country.

Have a Blessed Memorial Day.

We played the Resort at Eagle Mountain Lake today.  It was really windy and several of the greens had dead and plugged spots.  Unfortunately I wound up having to putt through the plugs and it was an adventure as to where the putts were going.  In spite of that, my putting wasn't that good anyway today as I had 37 putts...ugh!!

None of us played very well today, though.  As near as I could tell, I came in 2nd with a 98.  The wind and the combination of not having ever played there definitely took it's toll.

Next week I will be playing in our yearly tournament in Oklahoma.  This tournament started over 25 years ago with a few guys from church and has grown over the years to about 40 men.  We play at Falconhead Lodge in Burneyville, OK.  The course was actually on the PGA Tour back in the late 1940's and lately has been improved over what it was.  They have put some money into it and it really shows.  We have a great time and one of the highlights is the Catfish dinner at McGehee's.

I played Tangle Ridge today.  The course is in pretty good shape, and the sand is some of the best I have hit from this year.  It was $30 with cart and range balls.  I played with Hunter Swilley, who shot a 78, which was awesome.  He had 3 birdies, but I also birdie #18.  I had an 89, but shame on me for missing 2 VERY short putts.

I hope everyone is alright.  It was a rough night last night.  Sherrill and I went to see the Rangers.  I checked my little iphone app for weather and could see a pretty big cell about 20 minutes away in the 4th inning, se we headed out to the truck.  It worked out well in doing so, because it started raining and hailing about 5 minutes after we got to the truck.  I got some pretty sizeable dings on the pickup from hail.  While driving home on Sylvania Ave, the wind brought down the rail road crossing gates and nearly got us as we were crossing.  That's the first time I remember being asked to go to the tunnels for safety, so it was pretty bad.  I wish they would have kept Carlos Quentin in the tunnels.  He killed us last night.

My wife and son are at the Mavs game in OKC tonight.  I hope they bring them good luck for a victory.

I went to see Dr. Rothbart today about my leg pain.  He has decided to try another epidural injection.  He said I should not golf until after the shot.  I didn't have the heart to tell him I have 108 holes scheduled between now and then.  Anyway, I am hopeful I can have restored function the the right leg.  I am playing a tournament Thursday at Tangle Ridge in Grand Prairie.

I went to Lafayette Indiana with my son this week to help him pick out an apartment.  It's really a nice place.   The winters may be a bit harsh, but it was very nice and his apartment is well located in the town.

While we were there, we played tourist for a bit in Indianapolis and visited the home of President Harrison.  It was a nice old home and there was a huge red oak in the front as well.  I didn't play any golf there, but maybe next time when I visit my son.  This Saturday we will be playing the Resort at Eagle Mountain Lake.  This is the first time for that course, so looking forward to it.

The results are in from the Fort Worth Center Golf Assoc. Tournament at Fossil Creek, and guess what:  I tied for first!!!  This is so cool and I won $63 as well.

The next tournament is at Tangle Ridge in Grand Prairie and I have until May 29th to complete my round.
We played at Bear Creek on the West course this morning.  It was cold and windy.  Ed was playing pretty well today and beat everyone, including Russell in spite of Russell's "encouragement".  I played awful, but only slightly more awful than Joel, who was in rare form today.  Not only we but the golfers several fairways over got quite an education in cuss words, hollering and club throwing.  I tweaked my back Friday night picking up a large bag of bird seed and I kind of knew it was going to be a rough day.

I will be out next week as we will be going to Indianapolis with Kendall to help him find an apartment.  The rest of the gang will play Split Rail in Aledo next Saturday.

False Alarm on Cedar Crest.  We just found out that they are plugging the greens this week, so we will play there another time.  By the way, Stevens Park in Dallas is also undergoing renovation and will re-open in October, 2011.

This Saturday, it's Bear Creek West for the 4 Amigos.  More to come.

False alarm on Cedar Crest Golf Course.  They just plugged the greens and it should be a month before we will attempt it.  I also found out that Stevens Park is closed for remodeling and will re-open in October.

I'm going to try to get out this afternoon for a quick 18 at Fossil Creek or maybe Sky Creek Ranch.  It's probably going to be cart path only due to the rain, but that's OK.

I stumbled on a blog today entitled "Life in the Rough" by Mike Gray.  He has set a goal of becoming a professional golfer and is chronicling his journey.  Mike has had bariatric surgery and has lost 82 pounds.  He is a recent resident of Fort Worth and I wish him well in his journey,

Our next ZFW Golf League is going to be at Cedar Crest in Dallas.  I have never played there, so I can't wait to play it and review it.

Today we played Champion's Circle in North Fort Worth.  It was a beautiful day and the course was in good shape.  The traps were pretty playable today, which is not usually the case.  Russell had another good round with an 83.  Joel would have had a much better round except for being 7 over on the last 3 holes.  That left him with an 86 and I had an 87.  Doc had a rough day with a 98, but next week at Bear Creek West is another day.

I saw Adena Wallace today.  She was the assistant pro at Texas Star and is now the assistant at Champions.  She is a good instructor and if you're looking for a lesson, check her out.

Sherrill and I found 4 more caches after golf today, bringing our total to 527.

What an awesome day for golf!!!!!  I played Fossil Creek today for my tournament round in the ZFW Golf association.  I played with three really nice fellows, Patrick, John and Bill.  They are terminal controllers (Bill and John are retired).  I had a pretty good round except for three holes.  I was 9 over on these three holes but still shot an 86.  Tomorrow I rest and play Champions Circle on Saturday.

Today I played Hawk's Creek in Fort Worth.  I struggled with my back today.  Last night I had to fix the commode and was bent over for about an hour.  I really paid for it during the round.  I was proud of keeping my focus and shot an 87.  There are a lot of tight lies and except for 1 trap, they were mostly mud rather than sand.  The greens looked like they were going to break way more than they actually did.  We went off shotgun style at 8:00 due to them having a tournament in the afternoon and it works out really well.  We finished in under 4 hours.  I am a glutton for punishment though.  I am playing in the Fort Worth Center Golf league on Thursday afternoon and with the Amigos on Saturday at Champion's Circle by the Texas Motor Speedway, so I should be limping around on Mother's Day.
