The four amigos minus Joel went to Sugar Tree in Dennis to play today.  The course is in good shape and the greens were really nice.  Joel passed up his golf game to renew his concealed handgun license.  Since finding out this key piece of info, it has added additional tension to his semi-regular outbursts on the course.

This week, Russell laid the wood to us again.  He shot an 85 that would probably been much better if anyone pushed him, but he pretty much coasted in.  He did hit an outstanding shot from an almost impossible lie to salvage a double.  It would have been a triple for everyone else, but he never quits.  Ed had a 90 and I shot a whopping 98!

Sherrill and I went out geocaching yesterday after golf.  My legs were toast, but we managed to find 5.  Most were fairly easy, but one was in some of the most dense thicket I've seen and I've got the scars to prove it!  We had a DNF in a park.  It was somewhere in a tree, but about 20 minutes of looking produced nothing.

I played Texas Star again today with guys from church.  Much better than Monday.  I should have been in the 80's but ran out of gas and tripled 17 and 18 for a 95.  Still I was hitting the ball pretty well.  Steve VanOss shot an 81 with 3 doubles.  He is a machine.

Tiger is out after 1 round!  A
He hit a really bad drive on the 19th hole and had no chance to recover.  Things still don't look too good for Tiger.

Tonight we served at Ronald McDonald house.  Our Sunday School class provides dinner for the guests of RM house with dinner and dessert on the third Tuesday of each month.  It is really a blessing to do this for families that already have a lot on their minds.  They have therapy dogs that the kids can pet and play with.  Sherrill loves to spend a few minutes at the end petting the dogs as well.  These dogs have the sweetest disposition you will ever see.

I played Texas Star today as part of the ZFW Golf League.  It was massively windy today and I compounded this by not being able to get off the tee during most of the round.  Couple that with no rolling the ball and putting all the way in and you have a 105!!!  I don't think I'll have to worry about the payout for this tourney.  I'm nothing if not a glutton for punishment, so I'm going back on Wednesday for another round at the Star.  I'll let you know how it turns out.

DFW Geocachers Meeting

Yesterday the DFW Geocaching group met at the IHOP in Azle.  After breakfast and visiting, Sherill went with two of her friends, Raylene and Mary, to Eagle Mountain Lake.  They spend about 4 hours walking around the entire lake.  Sherrill found 10 caches, mostly camo'ed ammo cans, and she came home exhausted but with a nice "farmer's tan."

10th Tee Box
Today we played Split Rail in Aledo.  It was a bit windy, but a great day on the course.  As usual, it was a two horse race from the start, with Russell maintaining a two stroke lead after 9 holes.  Ed was hitting the ball pretty well today, and if not for a couple of bad holes, would have been in the thick of things.  It was a tough match right to the end, but Mr. Clutch, AKA Russell came through.  What can you say about his clutch putting and short game.  In practice before the round, he put about a dozen sand shots within 3 feet of the cup.  Joel needed to make birdie on the last hole, but alas, it didn't happen.  Russell won with an 82, and Joel had an 83.  Both guys played great golf.  I think Ed shot 90 and as usual, I finished up the field at a sparkling 99.  Next week it's Sugar Tree.

In Dubai, they don't expect you to expectorate

Tiger gets fined in Dubai for spitting.  I guess it's ok for camels but not golfers.  It was probably a poor decision to spit on the green.  Gee, I wonder what the fine would have been if Russell and Higgy had "shared a tree" like they did on the golf course here in Texas?

Happy Valentine's Day

Today's the day, men.  Don't forget to treat your sweetie extra special and let her know that she is your Valentine.  To my one and only, Happy Valentine's day, Honey!

Geocaching

Yesterday we were 1 for 3 on Geocaches.  We looked (and got scratched by pretty big stickers) but could not find the first 2.  After spending about 20 minutes searching for the last one, we finally found it.  It was really in an inventive location.

We stopped a few days ago in Trophy Club looking for some caches and we had Kendall with us.  He thinks we are senile for doing geocaching and get's embarrassed if anyone sees us looking.  Oh well.

We played Iron Horse today.  Tee time was 8:00, but we didn't tee off until 9:30 due to frost.  It turned out to be a great day!  Here's Russell with his "Ian Poulter" hat.  Today "Ian" couldn't miss a putt.  He sank a 40 foot snake on #7 for birdie and shot an 83.  The only bright spot for me was a birdie on #17, but alas I finished last with a 97.
Joel is getting ready to hit his drive off the 13th tee.  It wound up down the middle and in great shape for his 2nd shot.

It's not Central Park in NY, it's deck 5 of  "The Oasis of the Seas."  It is really like being in a park with numerous nice restaurants and shops.  There are park benches and tables throughout the area, and it's a great place to sit and relax with a cup of coffee.

Golf Ball hitting steel super slo mo

Check this out at 70,000 frames per second.
Looks like we dodged a bullet today in Fort Worth.  We had just a trace of snow and the roads remained pretty good.  The best news is the weekend temps with 60 degrees on Saturday and 70 on Sunday.  The 4 Amigos are playing Iron Horse Saturday and it should be a great day!

A friend mentioned that dormant Bermuda subjected to more than 3 days of below freezing temperatures is subject to being killed.  If this is so, it won't bode well for golf courses here in the Spring and Summer.  I'm going to look into this a bit deeper.

We're back from our cruise.  WOW, what a ship! The weather was perfect (sorry about the storm here).  We spent three days on Key West after the cruise and it was great too.  While on St. Thomas, I played Mahogany Run Golf course.  It was really tough.  Thirteen thru fifteen is called the Devil's Triangle.  They give you a prize if you can complete this three hole stretch without a penalty.  The day before the prize was a Mercedes; the day after was a Jaguar, but on this day, the prize was the highly sought after aerial photo of the three holes.  I played the triangle in +6 and finished with 102.  Yikes.
